Ed Orr may be GVRCA’s newest board member, but he is not new to Green Valley Ranch. Ed and his wife, Pattie, have called The Horizon’s subdivision home since 1997. As a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America, in Hyde Park, New York, Ed’s career has carried his family all over the western United States. Ed settled in Henderson as part of the planning and opening team that built Del Webb’s Anthem Country Club and other elements of Anthem. At Anthem, Ed was promoted to the position of Executive Director responsible for all operations.
Currently a partner in a local tavern business, Ed, Pattie, four year old daughter, Anika, and their two dogs are happy GVR residents. Ed is excited to bring his extensive planned-community career experience to the GVRCA board in order to continue to enrich and maintain the characteristics of The Ranch that he loves.
When asked why he became involved in serving the GVR community, Ed responded, “I was concerned about commercial development encroaching on Twitchell and Vanderberg elementary schools. I attended several GVRCA board meetings which got me thinking about what I could do regarding my concerns. It’s important to me that the beauty and integrity of the ‘best neighborhood in Las Vegas and Henderson’ be maintained.” To this end, Ed’s goals are to keep the look and feel of the community as appealing and up to date as possible. Ed states, “As time goes by it becomes increasingly important to adopt a pro-active approach in order to maintain our common areas and parks. I also feel the importance of keeping individual homeowners accountable for maintaining their landscaping and exteriors are areas that can be improved.”
Ed and his family love the amenities and services available to them throughout The Ranch but have concerns about the increase in traffic congestion around Green Valley Parkway and I-215. The speeding problems on Paseo Verde and in schools zones throughout The Ranch are also troubling to them.
When asked to share his favorite thing about The Ranch, Ed is quick to respond. “The overall look is continuing to improve as our landscape matures, but I think the walking and jogging paths are just awesome. We live along a big paseo with great shopping, dining, and the area’s best schools. On a sunny day when I walk my dogs with my little girl riding her bike down those paths what’s not to like!
